According to “The Annals of Internal Medicine” (October 3, 2017 article) sitting too long each day can increase your risk of premature death – even if you exercise. Maybe you’ve heard some say, “sitting is the new smoking” meaning all our sedentary-ness is sneaking up and harming, and maybe killing us!
I’m not a frequent reader of Internal Medicine journals – but I do read the Bible frequently! And, as it turns out physicians and researchers are rediscovering what the Bible has been saying for, oh, I don’t know…thousands of years.
We’re shaped for service. We’re designed to move. We’ve been created to tend the Garden.
St Paul’s letter to the Ephesians is like an over-packed suitcase, but instead of travel wear, it has an overabundance of messaging of the grace of God! Chapter 2 verses 1-10 may be some of the richest of Paul’s writings.
“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works – which God prepared in advance for us to do!”
Not only is our response to God’s Grace to engage is good works, but God, in his mysterious, timeless fashion, has prepared them for us beforehand! Talk about purpose! Yes, like last week’s touch point with the equally mysterious “predestination” it defies full understanding. But the strong Gospel message is clear – God’s Plan includes the details.
Come to worship to revel in God’s Plan and rejoice his Plan includes you!
See you in worship, Good Lord willing,
Karl
