Forgotten Virtues is less a reminder of the culture’s diminishing practice of Christian virtues and more a celebration of the Biblical power inherent in living a Godly lifestyle.
Over the month of November, we’ll review virtues most observe to have faded from the American culture (with the possible exception of the military). With a design to reawaken and stir the spirit by God’s Holy Spirit, each “Forgotten Virtues” worship message will remind us of the problems that arise when these virtues lie dormant. But more importantly, each topic provides opportunity to remind and renew how life is blessed when they are present!
This Sunday: “Purity”
What in the world is pure anymore? Air? No way. Water? You’ve got to be kidding. Organic food? Nice try but not completely pure. Sexual purity? Saving oneself for marriage? 1 in 30 is the number I found!
The point is easy to make and easy to illustrate. Our world is impure. Polluted.
In distinction the Scriptures still call for “purity.” In fact, Jesus says it’s the pure in heart who will see God! So…how does an impure person in an impure world seek purity, or, become purified?
Yup, a pastor asked it, so, there’s a high percentage you already know who the answer is! The impossibility of purity becomes subject to Jesus’ transformation. The invitation of the prophet Isaiah will be the strong gospel message, “Come let us reason together. Though your sins be as scarlet, they will be as white as snow!” (1.18)
Come as your impure self.
Leave, pure you!
I look forward to seeing you in worship!
