Fyodor Dostoyevsky, the renowned 20th century Russian novelist is quoted as saying, “The mystery of human existence lies not in just staying alive, but in finding something to live for.”
Powerhouse novelists, ancient philosophers and lots of really smart people throughout history have recognized the meaninglessness that infects the purpose-less, even drifting life. But pretty much all of them (or at least all of them I’ve encountered) point in the wrong direction to find life’s direction. They generally point inward.
Jesus, on the other hand, points out, up and outside to the purpose of the Heavenly Father!
“‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. ‘This is the first and greatest commandment.’”
Only then with that priority established does he add the link,
And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself. ‘All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” – Jesus (Matthew 32.37-38)
This worship series on purpose has refocused my personal desire to be about mission. (Few things bother me more than imagining me on my death bed saying, “I wish I would of…). And, yes, because I am pastor and proclaimer of God’s Purpose, I’m called on to invite, and even urge you as well; be about God’s mission. By the Power of the Spirit, love Him and be willing to follow His “link” to the second commandment Jesus connects to the first.
Let’s find our purpose at Peace out, up and outside ourselves in God’s Power and Peace. I pray you will find it here…
Peace,
Pastor Karl
