Introducing a worship series to lead us through the remaining summer months – “The Freedom of Boundaries: In Praise and Celebration of the 10 Commandments.”
The objective for this worship series of God’s Word on boundaries – to be able to know them by heart and accept them in your heart as God’s loving command. They are a curb to keep us secure; a rule to see how we’re measuring up and a guide for daily living designed to strengthen relationships and develop meaningful community.
This Sunday will serve as an overview of the blessing of boundaries overall in God’s Word. We’ll begin with receiving the paradox of boundaries – how something that limits us actually provides freedom for us. We’ll review the Exodus story of the giving of the 10 commandments, and examine the fundamentals of the separation of God’s Word into law and gospel.
I like to use the summer months to examine Biblical fundamentals of the faith to strengthen core “spiritual muscles” that support us in an increasingly secular culture. It’s hard to get more “core” than the 10 Commandments.
Additionally, to that end, each of our non-communion Sundays will turn the dial toward a more traditional model as we will follow an ancient order of worship called, “Matins.” As part of our “Matins” order of worship we’ll (re)introduce three “canticles” (historic worship songs from Biblical texts) . They are, “The Venite” (O Come Let Us Sing); “The De Deum Laudamus” (We Praise You O God) and “Benedictus” (Song of Zechariah).
Let’s worship the Lord together; gladly accept his boundaries and enjoy the freedom they provide! Anticipate receiving God’s Power and Peace!
