The Holy Week: Monday

The Holy Week: Monday

The primary event of Monday of Holy Week is Jesus cleansing the temple in an obvious and public demonstration of anger over the misuse of the Temple. But Jesus also showed anger at the cursing of a fig tree that was not bearing fruit!
In either case there is illustration of the wrath of God over the abuse of His design or the fruitlessness of His gifts provided freely but poorly invested (or not invested in the Kingdom at all). God’s design calls for setting aside the sacred and for being productive.
This isn’t Jesus having a bad Monday, this is Jesus illustrating the wrath of God against polluting the sacred and wasting life away non-productively. I don’t know about you, I can fall into either/both categories…
Looks like I’m in need of Someone to pay the price for my polluting and fruitless non-productivity…
Monday’s events are recorded in Matthew 21:12–22, Mark 11:15–19, Luke 19:45-48, and John 2:13-17.
